DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College women's soccer team (0-11, 0-9 CC) was defeated by King University (4-8, 3-6 CC) by a score of 3-1 at Huggins Field on Wednesday evening. Brianna Raffa scored a consolation goal for the Fleet in the 78th minute.

THE SERIES
A King win on Wednesday ended a three-match unbeaten run for Erskine in the series as the Tornado now lead the all-time series 7-2-1.

THE MATCH
The Fleet began the match as the better side, creating a bulk of the chances in the opening ten minutes, but neither side was able to register a shot. Then, in the 13th minute Isabella Carr opened the scoring and gave King an early 1-0 lead on the first shot of the match. The Tornado took control of possession and chance creation after their first goal and Veronica Roach doubled the visitors' lead in the 32nd minute as King took a commanding 2-0 lead into the halftime break. King started the second half the way they ended the first 45 minutes, and Presley Bacon scored their third and final goal with a tap-in off a corner kick in the 58th minute. Brianna Raffa scored a consolation goal in the 78th minute off a corner kick that was delivered to the back post where Raffa tapped home from close range surrounded by a number of Erskine and King players to register her first goal as a member of the Flying Fleet.

THE PLAYER
Freshman Brianna Raffa played all 90 minutes and had two shots, including the final touch on a goalmouth scramble at the far post in the 78th minute to score the Fleet's lone goal of the match.

THE TEAM
Erskine outshot King 12 to six but the Tornado had a narrow four to three edge in shots on target.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet remain at home as they welcome Chowan University (3-9-1, 3-6-1) to town on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. The Fleet are winless in four meetings all-time with the Hawks, but the teams played to a 2-2 draw in the last matchup in Due West back in September 2019.
