Fleet baseball dropped today's matchup against Shorter University 6-4.
Erskine came out strong with a double from Xander Vizzcoran and Gregory Sander advanced him to third.
Drew Yniesta hit a sacrifice fly to bring Vizzocarn home for a 1-0 lead. Shorter quickly took the lead in the bottom of the inning when J. Guyton singled to left field and brought in two runs. Each team was forced to leave a man on base in the second inning, neither able to bring in any runs. The Fleet were able to get three men on base before a balk brought in Vizzcoran for a run. A change in Shorter's pitchers brought two quick outs for the Fleet, who had to end the inning with bases loaded. The Fleet were the next to strike in the top of the fifth inning, when
Zach Carter was able to bring in Sander for another run. Shorter tied it up in the bottom of the sixth with one run and the Fleet able to close out the inning before Shorter was able to bring in the two men they had on base. Tied 3-3 and heading into the seventh,
Cory Everett hit a single to center field bringing in Yniesta for the 4-3 lead. The bottom of the seventh saw Erskine give up the lead, as Shorter was able to score another two runs in the bottom of the seventh and another in the bottom of the eighth. Down 6-4, the Fleet were able to get men on all three bases but couldn't manage to bring them home.
Drew Yniesta led the Fleet going 3-4 while
Zach Carter hit 2-4.Â
Fleet Baseball will be back in action on Wednesday, February 12 as they take on rival Anderson University at Grier Field.
