In a non-conference match up on Saturday afternoon, Erskine women's lacrosse fell 15-12 to Newberry College.
Newberry struck early with a quick goal in the first four minutes of the game, but a goal from Schlagenhauf less than one minute later would tie the game at 1-1. The Fleet and the Wolves would exchange goals for the remainder of the first half, Newberry having the 8-7 advantage at the end of the first thirty minutes. The second half started with a goal from Newberry for a two goal advantage, but the Fleet responded when Epstein would find the back of the net two minutes later. This would be the last Fleet goal for twelve more minutes while Newberry managed to ring up five goals during the same time period. With eleven minutes left in the second half, the Fleet would go on a three goal scoring run, bringing the score within three but would be incapable to close the gap. Newberry would finish the game with fifteen goals to Erskine's twelve.
Amanda Epstein led the Fleet with five goals on eight shots.
Faith Flanagan followed with three goals on six shots, while
Katie Schlagenhauf and
Brittany Smith would each contribute two goals.
The Fleet will go back to Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday, February 26th when they travel to Central, SC to play Southern Wesleyan University.
