Due West, SC – After losing game one 3-2, the Flying Fleet responded with an 8-1 victory over Emmanuel in game two, splitting the Conference Carolinas double header.
Game One
Emmanuel would score two runs in the second and one in the third to take the early 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the third,
Britton Young would get hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and
Julia Cole would pinch run and eventually advance to third.
Reagan Davis would draw a two out walk, and then she and Cole would execute a double steal to make it a 3-1 game.
Jacquie Hill would blast a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to make it a one run game but the Lions would hold on for the win.
Hill and
Brittany Reynolds were the only Fleet batters with a hit.
Danica Newton (6-4) took the loss allowing three runs on four hits in three innings of work.
Game Two
Davis would lead off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced to second when the right fielder mishandled the ball. She would later score on a single down the left field line by Hill to give Erskine the early lead. The Lions would tie the game up with a run in the top of the third, but the score would not remain tied long. Reynolds would lead off the bottom of the inning with a single up the middle and
Sydney Smith would follow with a home run to left to give Erskine the 3-1 lead. Young would then belt a solo home run later in the inning to make it 4-1. The Fleet would add three more in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the victory.
Young was 2-3 with a home run and three RBI's to lead the Fleet, while Smith drove in two with her home run. Davis, Reynolds, Hill,
Lydia Trexler, Brooke and
Brittany Rhinehardt each had one hit.
Candace Fitch (9-5) picked up the win allowing one run on four hits and striking out seven in the complete game performance.
