Burlington, NC – Belmont Abbey scored two runs in the bottom of the 11
th inning to take a 4-3 victory over Erskine, eliminating the Fleet from the Conference Carolinas baseball tournament.
The Crusaders would score two runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. In the top of the second,
Henry Faunce would lead off with a single and later score when
Kyle Heiss reached on a Belmont Abbey error. The Fleet would tie the game in the third on a single by
Chris Rave. That would be all the scoring for either team until the top of the 11
th when
Destin Nichols led off with a home run to put Erskine ahead. The Crusaders would score two runs in the bottom half of the inning to win it.
Faunce, Heiss, and
AJ Fabrizio each had two hits for the Fleet while Rave and Nichols each had one hit and one RBI.
Joe Johnson (8-5) took the hard luck loss allowing one earned run on five hits and struck out eight in nine innings of relief work.
