Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet scored two runs in their final two at bats to erase a 1-0 deficit and win game two of a Conference Carolinas softball double header 2-1 to complete a sweep of North Greenville Saturday afternoon.
Game OneErskine would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when
Brittany Reynolds scored on a sacrifice fly by
Chandler Crawford. The Fleet would blow the game open with six runs in the second. Erskine got RBI singles from
Christine Long,
Sydney Smith,
Lydia Trexler, and Reynolds. Smith would make it an 8-0 game with a solo home run in the fourth and Erskine would take the 8-1 victory.
Smith was 3-4 2ith a home run and three RBI's, while
Jacquie Hill was 2-4 with two doubles and a run scored for the Fleet and
Reagan Davis also added two hits including a double.
Danica Newton (6-3) picked up the win allowing one run on six hits and striking out three.
Game TwoThe Crusaders would take advantage of two Erskine errors in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Neither team would be able to muster any runs until the Fleet tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth. Long would lead off the inning with a walk and
Julia Cole would pinch run. Davis would draw a one out walk to move Cole into scoring positions and a single to center by Reynolds would tie the game. Trexler would lead off the bottom of the sixth with a walk and
Brooke Rhinehardt would pinch run for her and Crawford would lay down a sacrifice bunt to move her into scoring position. Hill would then hit her third double of the game to score Rhinehardt and giver Erskine the lead. North Greenville would load the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh, but
Kaylin White would get a strike out and two ground outs to end the game.
Hill was a perfect 3-3 with a double and RBI to lead the Fleet, while Reynolds was 2-3 with an RBI.
Candace Fitch (8-5) picked up the win allowing one run on five hits and striking out four. White (2) got the save allowing one hit and striking out one in an inning of relief.
