Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Fleet Fly Past Falcons, 3-0, for Senior Night Victory

DUE WEST, SC - The Fleet had little trouble dispatching the Falcons of Pfeiffer, 3-0, on an afternoon when the Fleet Men's Volleyball team was honoring 6 seniors that were the first players in program history.

One of those seniors, Neal Stanley, opened the first set and set the tone for the entire match.  Two Stanley aces helped the Fleet take a quick 7-0 lead that would quickly become a 10-1 lead forcing a Pfeiffer time out.  The Fleet would roll from there to take the 1st set 25-14.  The Fleet used strong defense at the net to register 8 blocks, and cause the Falcons to hit -.133 for the set.  Erskine hit .500 and was led by Roberto Perez with 5 kills.

The 2nd set would be more closely contested.  However, with the score tied at 15, the Fleet would win 8 of the next 9 points to take a 23-16 lead before winning the set 25-19.  In the set, Mike Michelau would tally 5 kills in 5 attempts.  Perez would contribute 4 kills, while David Grandy had 11 assists.

The 3rd set followed a similar pattern as the 1st.  Stanley started with service and combined with Perez to give the Fleet an early 8-2 lead that would become 11-4 shortly after.  The Falcons would get within 4 points, but the Fleet would go on to win the set 25-18 and the match, 3-0.  Michelau would hit 1.000 again in the 3rd set going 4-4.  Six of the seven Fleet players that played in the set registered at least one kill.

For the match, the Fleet defense collected 15 blocks and held Pfeiffer to a .102 attack percentage.  Perez led the Fleet with 12 kills, while Michelau was a very efficient 10 for 13, hitting at .769.  The Fleet overall had a .492 attack percentage and Grandy registered a match high 25 assists.

The Fleet travel to King University on Tuesday for their next Conference Carolinas matchup.
