Belmont, NC – The Flying Fleet split a Conference Carolinas double header with Belmont Abbey Saturday afternoon to clinch a series victory. Erskine won game one 3-2 and the Crusaders won game two 8-3.
Game One
In the top of the second
Henry Faunce and
Chaz Davey would lead off the inning with back to back singles and
Destin Nichols would lay down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners.
Kyle Heiss would then get hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Tyler Phillips would then double down the left field line to score two and give Erskine the lead.
AJ Fabrizio would have an RBI ground out to make it 3-0. The score would remain 3-0 until the Crusaders scored a run in the sixth to cut the lead to two. Belmont would score another run in the seventh to make it a one run game but
Joe Johnson would come in and get a fly out and a strike out to end the game.
Faunce was 2-4 with a run scored and Phillips was 1-2 with a double and two RBI's for the Fleet.
Zack Bowers (7-1) picked up the win allowing two run on seven hits in 6.1 innings and Johnson (5) would get the save recording the final two outs.
Game Two
Erskine would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Faunce singled and scored on a single by Heiss. The Crusaders would score seven unanswered runs and would salvage the 8-3 victory.
Heiss was 3-4 with a double and RBI, while Faunce was 2-5 with one run scored for the Fleet.
Josh Alley (3-2) took the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings of work.
