Due West, SC – Erskine swept a Conference Carolinas double header from North Greenville Saturday to secure the programs first ever conference championship.
Game One
Training 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Erskine would take advantage of a two out error to score two runs and take the lead. The Fleet would add to their lead in the second on a two run home run by
AJ Fabrizio and a RBI single by
Henry Faunce. The Crusaders would cut it to a one run game with three runs in the fourth, but Erskine would score four runs over the next three innings to take the win.
Sam Cothran was 2-4 with a double and two runs scored, while
Chase Watts added two hits and two runs scored.
Chris Rave was 1-2 with a double and RBI, while Faunce had two hits and an RBI.
Alex Calvert (8-1) picked up the win allowing one earned run on three hits and striking out nine in seven innings of work.
Game Two
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Cathran Watts and Rave would lead off with three straight singles and Faunce would hit a grand slam just inside the right field foul pole to give Erskinr the 4-2 lead. North Greenville would score a run in the top of the fourth to make it a 5-4 game, but
Joe Johnson would come in and throw three scoreless innings to secure the championship for the Fleet.
Cothran was 3-4 with a run scored and Faunce was 2-3 with four RBI's. Rave finished the game a perfect 3-3 with two runs scored and
Kyle Heiss was 2-3 with an RBI. Johnson (8-4) got the win allowing three hits in three innings and striking out four.
