Due West, SC – Saginaw Valley scored three runs in the final two innings to take a 9-7 victory over Erskine Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.
Dylan Eschenburg would lead off the game with a single and score on a single by Garrett Soule to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning
Chris Rave would double with two outs and
Henry Faunce would blast a two run home run to put Erskine up 2-1. The game would go back and forth over the next five innings. Trailing 6-4 in the seventh,
Sam Cothran would triple to lead off the inning and score on a ground out by Rave to make it a 6-5 game. Faunce would then draw a walk and advance to third on a double by
Chaz Davey.
Destin Nichols would single up the middle to score both runners and put Erskine up 7-6. Saginaw Valley would take advantage of an Erskine error in the top of the eighth to score two runs to regain the lead and add another in the ninth to take the victory.
Davey was 3-5 for the Fleet with a double and two runs scored, while
Kyle Heiss was 2-3 with a double and RBI. Cothran and
Chase Watts added two hits in the loss.
Joe Johnson (4-2) took the loss allowing one unearned run in one-third of an inning of work.
