Due West, SC – Erskine swept the opening Conference Carolinas series from Barton College Saturday afternoon, winning game one 6-5 and game two 2-1.
Game OneBarton would score two runs in the second to take the lead early, but
Chandler Crawford would belt a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to one. The Bulldogs would answer with a two run home run by Rachel Jordan to make it a 4-1 game. In the bottom of the third,
Mia Blochviak would lead off with a double and score on a single by
Reagan Davis. Davis would later score on a ground out by
Sydney Smith to again make it a one run game. The Fleet would tie the game up in the fourth when
Jacquie Hill would triple and score on a single by
Julia Cole. The score would remain tied until the top of the seventh when Taylor Bowden hit a solo home run to put Barton up by one. With two outs, Davis would single and
Brittany Reynolds would reach on a fielder's choice and Smith would single up the middle to soce bot runners and give Erskine the win.
Smith was 2-4 with three RBI's to lead the Fleet, while Crawford was 2-3 with a home run and RBI and Davis was 3-4 with two runs scored.
Kaylin White (4-2) picked up the win allowing one hit and no runs in one inning of relief.
Game TwoThe score would remain scoreless for the first three and a half innings in game two. In the bottom of the fourth Reynolds and Smith would lead off with back to back singles and a sacrifice fly by
Lydia Trexler would give Erskine the lead. In the fifth,
Britton Young would lead off with a double and Cole would pinch run for her and later score on a wild pitch to make it a two run game. The Bulldogs would get a run in the sixth, but
Candace Fitch came into the game and shut down the rally to record her third save of the season.
Reynolds, Smith, Young and Blochviak each had one hit for Erskine, while Trexler had the lone RBI. White (5-2) picked up her second win of the day allowing one run on four hits and striking out four in 5.2 innings of work.
