Erskine Edges Brevard 5-4

Brevard, NC  - Sam Cothran scored on a sacrifice fly by Destin Nichols in the top of the ninth to break a 4-4 tie and Erskine would hold on for the victory over Brevard Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.

In the top of the second, Tyler Phillips would draw a walk and advance to second on a wild pitch.  He would then score on a single up the middle by Kyle Heiss to put Erskine up 1-0.  The Tornados would respond with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 3-1 game.  Chris Moody would lead off the third with a double and score on a single by Cothran to cut the lead to one.  Cothran would go from first to third on a wild pitch and then score on a ground out by Henry Faunce to tie the game.  Brevard would regain the lead on a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.  They would keep the lead until the seventh.  Chaase Watts would hit a one out single and advance to third on a double by Cothran.  Chaz Davey would hit a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at four.  In the top of the ninth, Cothran and Faunce would lead off with back to back singles and Davey would lay down the sacrifice bunt to move them into scoring position.  Nichols would then fly out to right, scoring Cothran and giving Erskine the lead.  Joe Johnson would pitch a scoreless ninth to pick up his second save.

Cothran led the Fleet at the plate going 3-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Watts and Heiss each added two hits.  Zack Bowers (4-1) picked up the win striking out two in two perfect innings of relief work.
