Mount Olive, NC – Erskine split a Conference Carolinas double header with Mount Olive Friday. The Trojans won game one 4-3 in 10 innings and the Fleet won game two 4-3.
Game OneSam Cothran would lead off the game with a triple and score on a ground out by
Chase Watts to give Erskine the early lead. Mount Olive would a run in the second and one in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. In the top of the sixth,
Chaz Davey would single and
Destin Nichols would double to left center. Davey would score on a ground out by
Tyler Phillips to tie the game at two. The Fleet would take a 3-2 lead in the seventh on Watts first career home run, but the Trojans would answer with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Neither team would score until the bottom of the 10
th when Mount Olive would score the winning run.
Cothran was 3-5 with a triple and run scored, while Watts had two hits and two RBI's. Nichols finished the game 2-3 with a double and
Henry Faunce had a double.
Joe Johnson (5-4) took the loss allowing one earned run on four hits and striking out five in five innings of relief.
Game TwoThe Trojans would take advantage of an Erskine error in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third
Kyle Heiss would lead off with a double and scored when
Tanner Lollis reached on an error to tie the game. Back to back singles by
AJ Fabrizio and Cothran would load the bases. Lollis would score when Watts grounded into a double play and Cothran scored when Faunce reached base on an error to make it 3-1. The Fleet would add another run in the fourth on a RBI single by Heiss to make it 4-1. The Trojans would score two runs in the sixth to make it a one run game, but
Noah Hinzman would come in and get the Fleet out of the jam and pitch a scoreless seventh to pick up his first save.
Heiss was 2-3 with a double and RBI to lead the Fleet, while Fabrizio was 2-3 with a triple. Josh Allen (2-1) picked up the win allowing one earned run on four hits and striking out five in 5.1 innings of work.
