Wilson, NC –
Chris Rave would blast a two run home run in the top of the 10
th to help lead the Fleet to a 5-2 victory over Barton in the opening game of the Conference Carolinas series.
Sam Cothran and
Chase Watts would lead off the game with back to back singles and Rave would lay down a sacrifice bunt to put runners in scoring position.
Henry Faunce would draw a walk to load the bases and
Chaz Davey would ground out, scoring Cothran and giving Erskine the lead. The Bulldogs would score two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a one run lead. In the top of the seventh
Tyler Phillips would single to lead off the inning and then steal second base. With two outs, Cohtran would single to right center, scoring Phillips and tying the game at two. The game would remain tied until the top of the 10
th inning. With one out, Watts would single and steal second and then Rave would hit his fourth home run of the season to put the Fleet up by two. Faunce would follow with a double down the left field line and
Chris Moody would pinch run. Davey would then double to left scoring Moody and finishing the scoring for Erskine.
Watts was 3-5 with a double and run scored, while Rave and Davey each had two hits and two RBI's. Cothran finished the game 2-5 with a run scored and run driven in.
Joe Johnson (5-3) picked up the win allowing just two hits and striking out seven in 6.1 innings of relief.
