Due West, SC – The Erskine softball team split a non-conference softball double header with rival Anderson University Monday afternoon. The Trojans won game one 4-3 and the Fleet won game two 5-1.
Game One In the bottom of the fourth,
Sydney Smith would double to right center and score on a double by
Chandler Crawford to give Erskine a 1-0 lead. Anderson would answer with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Smith and
Lydia Trexler would lead off with back-to-back singles and Crawford would draw a walk to load the bases. A single by
Julia Cole would score Smith and pinch runner
Brooke Rhinehardt would score on a Trojan error to make it a one run game. That would be as close as the Fleet would get as Anderson held on for the win.
Smith was 2-4 with a double and two runs scored, while
Reagan Davis was 2-3. Cole and Crawford each drove in a run for the Fleet.
Danica Newton (3-2) took the loss allowing four runs in nine hits in 5.1 innings of work.
Game Two Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Davis would lead off the inning with a solo home run to tie the game up.
Brittany Reynolds and Smith would follow with singles and Crawford would walk to load the bases. Pinch hitter
Baylee Browning would single to left field to score Reynolds and Smith to give Erskine a 3-1 lead. Crawford would then score on a sacrifice fly by Cole to make it 4-1. Crawford would give Erskine an insurance run with a solo home run to right center in the sixth.
Davis and Crawford homered to lead the Fleet offense, while Browning drove in two runs and Cole had one RBI.
Candace Fitch (6-4) picked up the win allowing one run on five hits and striking out four in a complete game performance.
