Due West, SC – After falling behind 4-0, the Fleet scored seven unanswered runs to defeat the 18
th ranked Cougars of Columbus State Friday afternoon in the first game of a three game series.
In the top of the second Ryan Ihle would hit a one out single and then scored on a double by Hunter Bowling to give Columbus State the 1-0 lead. The Cougar offense exploded for three runs in the third to extend their lead to four. In the bottom half of the inning Erskine would respond with four runs to tie the game, with RBI singles by Davey and
Chase Watts. The score would remain tied until the bottom of the seventh. With one out,
Sam Cothran would single up the middle and advanced to third on a two out single by
Henry Faunce. After Faunce advanced to second, Davy would single to left to break the tie. Erskine would add another run that inning to take the lead.
Joe Johnson would throw a scoreless eighth and ninth to nail down the win.
Cothran was 3-5 with two runs scored and Davey was 2-4 with three RBI's to lead the Fleet.
Destin Nichols, Faunce, and Watts each added two hits. Johnson (1-0) picked up the win striking out four in two and a thirds innings of work.
