Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet swept both games of a non conference double header from Salem International Saturday afternoon, winning game one 10-2 and game two 9-1.
Game OneFor the second straight day, Erskine would bat around in the bottom of the first.
Trevor Wood,
Sam Cothran, and
Chris Rave would lead off the bottom of the first with three straight singles, and Wood scoring the first run of the game on an errant throw by the catcher. Cothran would then score on a sacrifice fly by
Henry Faunce.
Brett Silas would double down the left field line to score two more runs and make it a 6-0 game. Erskine would score four more runs over the next four innings to take the victory.
Rave was 4-4 with a double and three runs scored, while Wood was 3-4 with a triple and two RBI's to lead the Fleet.
Chaz Davey had three hits and
Tyler Phillips added two.
Alex Calvert (2-0) picked up the win allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six in a complete game performance.
Game TwoThe Tigers would score a run in the top of the second to take an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Phillips would draw a walk and score on a double by Wood to tie the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Phillips would lead off with a single and steal second.
Kyle Heiss would then single to left center to score Phillips and give Erskine the one run lead. Wood would then be hit by a pitch and
Sam Cothran would blast his second home run in as many days to make it 5-1. Erskine would add four more runs in the seventh and hold on for the win.
Wood was 2-3 with a double and two RBI's and Cothran was 2-4 with a home run, double and three runs scored to lead the Erskine offense. Phillips was also 2-3 with three runs scored and one RBI.
Zack Bowers (2-0) picked up the win allowing one run on three hits and striking out four in five innings of work.
