Due West – The Flying Fleet beat the Bobcats of Lees McRae 67-66 tonight in Belk Arena. The win moves the Fleet to 7-9 overall and 4-6 in Conference Carolinas action.
The First half ended with the Fleet trailing 35-28.
Brannon Dark led the Fleet with 8 points and 7 rebounds, while
Joby Glymph and
Ray Lock pitched in 7 points a piece. Kendall Isler led the Bobcats with 12 points. The Fleet shot 34.6% from the field, and Lees McRae shot 37.5%.
The second half was all about a comeback for the Fleet. The Fleet slowly but surely kept chipping away at the Bobcat lead. Then, around the 3:00 mark the Fleet took the lead for the first time in the second half. Both teams traded buckets until around the 0.30 mark, and with 0.18 remaining on the clock the Fleet had to inbound from half court down 65-66. Sophomore
Blake Maness ended up with the ball and made the go-ahead basket with 0:05 left on the clock. The Bobcats got off a buzzer beating three but it was off the mark. In regards to the game winning play,
Blake Maness had this to say, "We tried to run a screen to get the ball in Joby's hands but he was double teamed. Time was running out, I had the ball, and my team needed me to make a shot and I did."
The Fleet will return to the hard wood this Friday when they take on the Falcons of Pfeiffer University. Game time is set for 7:30 P.M.
