SPARTANBURG, SC - The Fleet used a highly efficient and powerful attack to soar past the Valkyries of Converse College, 3-0, in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action.  The victory moves the Fleet to 5-5 overall, and 3-0 within Conference Carolinas.

The Fleet used a robust .349 hitting percentage in the match, and a .481 hitting percentage in the 2nd set, to win in straight sets, 25-11, 25-12, and 25-14.  Erskine also held Converse to only 17 kills compared to the Fleet's 38, while Erskine also registered 8 blocks.  The Fleet's efficient attack was led by Kelly Sullivan who had a game high 12 kills on only 18 attempts (.556 hitting percentage).  Marissa Mayfield also boasted a great hitting percentage, converting on 6 of her 11 attempts.  Payton Duncan was one dig shy of a double-double with 10 kills and 9 digs, and Kristen Dodge continued her strong play with a game high 32 assists.    

On occasion the Fleet have had trouble starting slow in 1st sets.  This was not the case in tonight's match as the Fleet ran out to an early 13-2 lead in the 1st set and cruised in sets 2 and 3.   Coach Vahjen was asked about the quick start as well as her teams advantage in tonight's match.

"We started and finished the game with the same energy.  Execution was great across the board from freshmen to seniors".
