Due West - A strong Flagler College team came to Due West for the Fleet's home opener in women's volleyball, and rolled through with a 3-0 win. The Saints came in with a 3-1 record while the Fleet entered with a 2-3 record. In tonight's match, the Fleet trailed the Saints by a wide margin in hitting percentage and total team blocks. They also accrued 30 errors compared to only 11 by Flagler.
The Fleet struggled to gain footing in the first and second sets as Flagler raced out to early set leads. The Saints would win both sets by a score of 25-16, 25-14. The Fleet and Saints would engage in a competitive 3rd set. The crowd in Belk Arena got involved in the game when the Fleet were able to win several long rallys to keep the score tight. One of these rallys included Junior
Kristen Dodge digging out back to back attack attempts by Flagler while on her knees. Her digs resulted in a kill by Senior
Kelly Sullivan, and a huge response from the fans in Belk Arena. Despite their best efforts, Flagler was able to close out the 3rd set, 25-20, to take the match.
Sullivan led the Fleet with 12 kills and a .235 hitting percentage. Dodge and Junior
Kendall Kirk again led the Fleet in assists (24) and digs (19). Shea Hamilton lead the Saints with 13 kills (.429 hitting %) and 14 digs.
