Box Score 2 Young Harris, Ga. – The Young Harris College Mountain Lions (26-12) silenced the bats of the Erskine Flying Fleet (14-20), defeating the Fleet twice 8 to 0 in 5 innings this afternoon in non-conference softball action at E.D. Rivers Field.
Game One
Young Harris' Darby Stanford fired a one hitter in game one. Stanford struck out five and did not issue a walk in earning her sixteenth win of the season.
Erskine had just two batters reach base in the contest. Freshman
Sydney Smith (Seneca, SC, Seneca High School) singled up the middle in the fourth to break up Stanford's no-hit bid. The Fleet's only other base runner was freshman
Mia Blochviak (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central High School). In the first, Blochviak reached on a throwing error by Stanford.
The Mountain Lions banged out seven hits, scoring eight runs against Erskine starting pitcher
Danica Newton (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School). Young Harris sent eleven batters to the plate, scoring six runs, four earned, in the second inning. YHC's Stacia Williams delivered the big hit, hitting a double to right to drive in two runs.
Game Two
In the nightcap, not only were the Fleet's bats quiet but the Fleet committed a season-high six errors, resulting in five unearned runs.
YHC's pitcher Jeannie Perrucci held the Fleet to two hits while striking out seven and walking one to earn her ninth win.
Erskine's two hits came in the first inning.
Brittany Rhinehardt (Clover, SC, Clover High School) and
Chandler Crawford (Williamston, SC, Palmetto High School) both singled but were left stranded. Perrucci was nearly perfect over the next four innings, issuing a walk to
Kathryn Windham (Manning, SC, Lawrence Manning Academy) in the third inning.
Five of Young Harris' first six runs were unearned. Erskine committed four miscues in the second running resulting in YHC's first three runs. In the next inning, Erskine committed two more errors, allowing two more unearned runs.
Erskine pitcher
Karen Hawkins (Belton, SC, J.L. Mann High School) took the loss. Hawkins pitched the first two innings, giving up three runs, all unearned, on four hits. She did not yield walk or strike out a batter.
Erskine was scheduled to play in-state conference foe Limestone tomorrow but due to the approaching inclement weather has been postponed to April 21
st. Erskine's doubleheader against USC-Aiken scheduled for that day has been cancelled.
