Box Score Due West, SC – Mount Olive scored six runs in the top of the ninth to break a 5-5 tie and held off an Erskine rally to win 11-8 in the first game of the Conference Carolinas series.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first,
Brandon Overstreet would lead off with a home run to right center.
Zach Smith would single with one out and score on a single by
Sam Cothran to tie the game. The Trojans (26-9, 14-4) would score a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Overstreet would lead off with a single to center and advance to third on a double by
Joey Wilson. A ground out by
Logan Galliher would score Overstreet and a double by
Destin Nichols would score Wilson to make it a 5-4 game. Erskine (29-7, 15-4) would tie it up with a run in the bottom of the sixth and the score remained tied until the top of the ninth. Mount Olive would score six runs in the top of the ninth to take an 11-5 lead. The Fleet scored three in the bottom half of the inning but it wasn't enough as the Trojans took the win.
Overstreet was 4-5 with a home run, double and two RBI's while Zmith was 3-5 with two runs driven in.
Cody Dysart (1-1) took the loss allowing one run on one walk.
