Burlington, NC – Pfeiffer scored four runs in the top of the ninth to erase a two run deficit and held on for an 8-7 victory in the Conference Carolinas baseball tournament.
Neither team could get any offense going through the first three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth,
Sam Cothran would get hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He would advance to second on a single by
Zach Smith. With one out,
Logan Galliher would blast a home run to left field and give Erskine a 3-0 lead. Pfeiffer would score a run in the sixth and one in the seventh to cut the lead to one. In the bottom of the seventh
Brandon Overstreet would double to right center and score on a single by Cothran to make it a two run game. The Falcons would tie the game up in the top of the eighth, but Galliher and
Hanlon Maivelett would each hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning to give the Fleet the two run lead. Pfeiffer would explode for four runs in the top of the ninth to take an 8-6 lead. Overstreet would hit a solo home run to right to cut the deficit to one but the Fleet could not tie the game and lost 8-7.
Galliher was 2-4 with two home runs and four RBI's to lead Erskine at the plate. Overstreet,
Brandon Wooten and Maivelett each added two hits in the loss.
Noah Hinzman (5-1) took the loss allowing three earned runs on four hits and striking out two in 1.2 innings of work.
Erskine will now play Belmont Abbey in an elimination game at 3:00 tomorrow.
