Game One
Erskine pitcher
Danica Newton (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) held Limestone to two runs on five hits over six plus innings to pick up her sixth win of the season.
Kaylin White (Columbia, SC, White Knoll High School) relieved Newton in the seventh to earn her third save of the season. After surrendering a run in the first, Newton held the Saints scoreless for the next five innings, allowing just three singles. The Saints scored an unearned run off Newton in the seventh.
At the plate, freshman
Sydney Smith (Seneca, SC, Seneca High School) accounted for all three Erskine runs. In the first inning, Smith drove a ball to the wall for a double, scoring
Brittany Reynolds (Seneca, SC, Seneca High School) who reached on a walk.
Two batters later Smith flashed her base running savvy to tally the Fleet's second run. Sophomore
Lydia Trexler (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) hit a grounder up the middle that Limestone shortstop Tessa Faucette laid out to snag. Faucette threw from her knees to first but the ball did not arrive in time for the third out. Smith, who was off from second on contact, rounded third and sped home beating the throw from the first baseman.
Smith drove in the game-winning run in the fifth inning.
Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School) drew a one-out walk and after stealing second, scored on Smith's base hit.
Smith finished 2 for 3 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Trexler also had two hits while
Mia Blochviak (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central High School) and
Chandler Crawford (Williamston, SC, Palmetto High School) each hit a double.
