Mt. Olive, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (7-10, 7-3) lost to the University of Mount Olive Trojans (12-4, 8-2) 5 to 4 today in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action. The loss drops the Flying Fleet into fourth place in the conference standings.
The Trojans grabbed an early 2 to 1 lead following the doubles matches. UMO captured the top two doubles matches while
Mollie Polk (Round O, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) and
Rebecca Weaver (Lake City, SC, The Carolina Academy) won a competitive match 8 to 5 at #3 doubles.
The two teams split the six singles matches giving the Trojans the slim 5 to 4 victory.
Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) and Polk triumphed in straight sets while
Mikaela Bennett (Calgary, Canada, National Sports HIgh School) battled to win in three sets at #3 singles.
Two other matches went three sets but went in UMO's favor. Goyette and Weaver lost in three sets at #2 and #6 singles respectively.
Erskine goes on the road to face archrival Anderson University on Monday. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
