Wilson, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (7-9, 7-2) snapped a four-match losing skid by beating the Barton College Bulldogs (6-9, 5-3) 6 to 3 this morning in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action at the Barton Tennis Complex.
Erskine escaped the three doubles matches leading 2 to 1.
Mollie Polk (Round O, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) and
Rebecca Weaver (Lake City, SC, The Carolina Academy) waltzed to an 8-0 victory at #3 doubles while teammates
Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) and
Haley Elliott (Simpsonville, SC, Mauldin High School) won a hard fought match 8 to 6 at #2 doubles.
Mika Goyette (Montreal, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortague) and
Mikaela Bennett (Calgary, Canada, National Sports HIgh School) almost gave the Fleet a clean sweep, but fell 8 to 6 at their #1 doubles position.
Erskine won four of the six singles matches to seal the victory. The Fleet was victorious in straight sets in their four matches. Bennett forced a tie-breaker after dropping her first set but lost a tight tie-breaker 6 to 4.
Erskine stays on the road to play the University of Mount Olive tomorrow starting at 10:00 a.m.
