Box Score Bristol, TN – King University scored eight unanswered runs and held on for an 11-5 victory over visiting Erskine College Friday in the opening game of the Conference Carolinas series.
In the top of the first Brandon
Joey Wilson would reach on a fielder's choice and
Zach Smith would follow with a one out single. With two outs,
Sam Cothran would line a triple to the right center field gap to score two and give Erskine (30-11, 15-7) the lead. King (20-21, 12-9) would then score six runs in the next three innings to take a 6-2 lead. Trailing 8-2 in the sixth,
Hanlon Maivelett would lead off the inning with a home run and
Brandon Wooten would later hit a solo home run to left to make it 8-4. The Tornado would answer with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to increase their lead back to six, and hold on for the 11-5 victory.
Zach Smith was 2-5 with a home run and one RBI, while Overstreet added two hits for the Fleet.
Austin Gambrell (5-1) took the loss allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits in five innings of work.
The two teams will conclude their series with a double header Saturday beginning at noon.
