Box Score 2 Due West, S.C. – After losing the first game 6 to 0, the Erskine Flying Fleet (6-8) snapped a four-game losing skid with a 7 to 2 victory over the Flagler College Saints (5-14) in the nightcap of today's non-conference softball doubleheader at the Erskine College Softball Complex.
Game One
Flagler's Haleigh Corbally and Rachel Hudson combined to toss a four-hit shutout to win game one 6 to 0, sending the Fleet to a fourth straight loss.
Corbally went four innings allowing two hits while striking out three and walking five. Hudson pitched the final three innings to earn her first save of the season. She surrendered two hits.
Erskine had bases loaded twice but could not push a run across the plate. In the first inning, the Fleet benefited from two walks to load the bases but Corbally got
Christine Long (Greer, SC, Greer High School) to ground out to end the threat. The Fleet loaded the bases again in the fourth. Corbally enduced a pop fly to short for the second out then induced a ground ball to end the inning.
Freshman
Sydney Smith (Seneca, SC) had two of the Fleet's four hits with
Jill Sprague (Charlotte, NC) and
Brittany Reynolds (Seneca, SC) accounting for the other two singles.
Erskine's
Danica Newton (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) took the loss giving up four runs, just two earned, in four innings pitched.
Game Two
Freshman
Gabby Keisler (Gilbert, SC) went 4 for 4 and drove in three runs while sophomore pitcher
Candace Fitch (Cherryville, NC, Burns High School) pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on six hits, to win game two 7 to 2 and snap the Flying Fleet's four game losing skid.
The Fleet bats tacked on four runs in the first three innings. Freshman
Chandler Crawford (Williamston, SC) drove in
Mia Blochviak (Taylorsville, NC) with a double in the first and sophomore
Jill Sprague (Charlotte, NC) singled home
Brittany Rhinehardt (Clover, SC) in the second inning. In the third inning, Keisler crushed her third home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the third.
In the sixth, Erskine added three more insurance runs to clinch the victory. With two outs, Reyonds hit the first of three singles. Crawford got hit by a pitch to force in the first run and after an rbi single by Keisler,
Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School) drew a bases loaded walk for the Fleet's third run in the inning. Flagler's Hudson relieved Tinsley Smith to get the final out.
For Fitch, it was her first complete game and her third win of the season.
Flagler's Erin Anderson took the loss, her fifth of the year.
Erskine travels to play archrival Anderson University on Tuesday. The first game starts at 4:00 p.m.
