Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (3-3, 3-0) evened their overall record with a crushing 9 to 0 victory over the visiting Valkyries of Converse College (0-4, 0-1) this afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Complex.
The Flying Fleet sprinted out to an early 3-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches.
Sarah McDonald (Round O, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) and
Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) blanked Kaitlin Knight and Samantha Sheffield 8-0 and
Mollie Polk (Round O, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) and
Rebecca Weaver (Lake City, SC, The Carolina Academy) defeated their opponents 8-1 at the #3 doubles spot.
In the six singles matches, the Fleet did not surrender more than a single game, winning all six in straight sets. Weaver registered the lone shutout, beating her opponent 6-0 and 6-0.
Erskine will play two road matches this weekend. On Friday, Erskine will travel to Tigerville, South Carolina, to play North Greenville University and will visit Central, South Carolina, on Saturday to play Southern Wesleyan University.
