Box Score 2 Due West, SC – The second ranked Flying Fleet split a double header with Pfeiffer Saturday, losing game one 6-5 and winning game two 13-5.
Game OneErskine (27-5, 15-3) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second on three straight two out RBI singles by
Billy Kozak (Sidney, NY, Sidney HS),
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC), and
Joey Wilson (Charleston, SC, USC Sumter). Pfeiffer (21-14, 12-5) would score an unearned run in the third to make it a two run game. In the bottom of the fourth, Kozak would hit two out single and then steal second. He would score on a single to center by Overstreet. A single to left by Wilson would put runners on first and second. Overstreet would then score from second base on a wild pitch to make it a 5-1 game. The Falcons would explode for four runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game and then scored one run in the top of the seventh to take a 6-5 victory.
Wilson was 3-4 with an RBI, while Kozak, Overstreet,
Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS), and
Hanlon Maivelett (Aiken, SC, Aiken HS) all had two hits each for the Fleet.
Kyle Foster (Greer, SC, Blue Ridge HS) (3-1) took the loss allowing one unearned run on one hit in 1.2 innings of work.
Game TwoThe Fleet would break a scoreless tie with five runs in the bottom of the third. Maivelett would lead off with a single to left and
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) would follow with a two run home run to left. Overstreet would then hit a one out double then Wilson,
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, Univ. of South Carolina), and
Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS) would each have RBI singles. Erskine would score eight more runs over the next two innings and held on for a 13-5 victory.
Smith was 3-5 with three RBI's to lead the Fleet, while Overstreet was 3-5 with two doubles and two RBI's.
Wes Schuler (Spartanburg, SC, USC Sumter) (4-0) picked up the win allowing five runs on 10 hits and striking out a season high 12 batters in the complete game performance.
