Box Score Due West, SC – Pfeiffer scored two runs in the top of the eighth to break a 5-5 tie and held on for the 7-5 victory over #2 Erskine College Friday afternoon in the Conference Carolinas series opener.
Pfeiffer (20-13, 11-4) would score one run in the top of the first to take the early lead. In the bottom of the second,
Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS) would single to right field and advance to second when
Hanlon Maivelett (Aiken, SC, Aiken HS) reached on catcher's interference. They would both score on back to back singles by
Billy Kozak (Sidney, NY, Sidney HS) and
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) to give Erskine (26-4, 14-2). The Falcons would respond with three runs in the top of the third to regain the lead 4-2. Erskine would tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth when
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) reached on a two out error and Dix would blast his sixth home run of the year to right field. Pfeiffer would once again take the lead with a run in the top of the seventh. In the bottom half of the inning
Joey Wilson (Charleston, SC, USC Sumter) would double down the left field line and later scored on a wild pitch. The Flacons would again answer with two runs in the top of the eighth and held on for the victory.
Izzy Perez led the Falcons at the plate going 3-5 with two doubles and three RBI's, while Tanner Mathis was 2-5 with two runs driven in. Ethan Greene (6-2) picked up the win allowing three earned runs and striking out seven in a complete game performance.
Dix was 2-4 with a home run and two RBI's to lead the Erskine offense, while Maivelett was 2-3 with a run scored.
Zach McAllister (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) (2-1) took the loss allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two in two innings of work.
