Box Score 2 Due West, SC – The third ranked Flying Fleet completed a three game Conference Carolinas sweep of Emmanuel Saturday, winning game one of the double header 8-4 and game two 9-5.
Game OneIn the bottom of the first inning,
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) would lead off with a solo home run to right field to put Erskine (25-2, 14-1) up 1-0. In the bottom of the second,
Destin Nichols (Tampa, FL, Berkley Prep) and
Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would lead off with back to back singles.
Tanner Lollis (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would lay down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third.
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) would then double down the left field line to score both runs. He would later score on a single by
Joey Wilson (Charleston, SC, USC Sumter) to put the Fleet up by four. Erskine would add two runs in the third to increase their lead to six. Emmanuel (4-23, 3-15) would score four runs in the top of the fourth to make it a two run game. Kozak would lead off the bottom half of the inning with a triple and then score on a sacrifice fly by Overstreet to make the score 7-4. The Fleet would add a run in the sixth and take the 8-4 victory.
Kozak was a perfect 3-3 with a double, triple and three RBI's to lead the Fleet, while Overstreet was 1-3 with a home run and two runs driven in.
Luke Crumley (Cleveland, GA, University of Georgia) (7-0) picked up the win allowing two earned runs on eight hits and struck out seven in a complete game performance.
Game TwoIn the bottom of the second,
Hanlon Maivelett (Aiken, SC, Aiken HS) would single to center with two outs. He would then advance to third on a single by Lollis. Maivelett would score when Lollis was caught in a rundown trying to steal second to give Erskine a 1-0 lead. The lead would be short lived as the Lions would hit a two run home run in the top of the third. Erskine would answer with two runs in the bottom of the third to regain the lead.
Houston Ison (High Point, NC, Rockingham CC) would lead off with a double to left center and Overstreet would follow with a walk. Wilson would lay down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Back to back RBI singles by
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, Univ. of South Carolina) and
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) would give the Fleet the lead. The Fleet would score three runs in the sixth and three in the seventh and hold on for a 9-5 victory.
Smith was 3-5 with an RBI and Lollis was 3-3 with a run scored to lead Erskine. Galliher was 2-5 with three runs driven in, while Cothran and Maivelett each added two hits.
Wes Schuler (Spartanburg, SC, USC Sumter) (3-0) picked up the win allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three in five and two-thirds innings pitched.
