Box Score Due West, SC – The third ranked Flying Fleet held off a late rally by Emmanuel Friday afternoon to win the opening game of their Conference Carolinas series 6-4.
Erskine (23-2, 12-1) would take advantage of a Lion error in the bottom of the second to score five runs and break the scoreless tie.
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) would lead off the inning with a walk and
Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS) would then be hit by a pitch. With one out,
Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would single to right field to lead the bases.
Tanner Lollis (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would reach on an error to score a run and give the Fleet the lead.
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) would then double down the left field line to clear the bases and make it a four run game. Kozak would then score on a single to center by
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) to finish the scoring. Emmanuel (4-21, 3-13) would score two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to three. In the bottom half of the inning, Galliher would lead off with a solo home run to make it a 6-2 game. The Lions would score a run in the seventh and a run in the eighth, but it would not be enough as the Fleet held on for the win.
Kozak was 2-4 with a double and three RBI's to lead the Erskine offense, while Overstreet added two hits and a run driven in.
Austin Gambrell (Belton, SC, Spartanburg Methodist College) (5-0) picked up the win allsoing three runs on seven hits and striking out five in 6.2 innings of work.
Zach McAllister (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) (5) got the save striking out one in one inning of relief.
