Box Score 2 Anderson, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (6-10) bats were silent today as the Fleet lost two games to the Anderson University Trojans (17-5) in non-conference softball action at Smethers Field.
The Fleet were held scoreless in both games and limited to just seven hits. In game one, Erskine banged out just three hits, all singles.
Sydney Smith (Seneca, SC),
Jill Sprague (Charlotte, NC) and
Brittany Rhinehardt (Clover, SC) each had a single for the Fleet.
For Anderson, Augie Pena tossed 6.2 innings of shutout ball for her seventh win of the season. Lauren Rudesheim got the final out.
Anderson hit three straight home runs to start the game. Jessica Neidigh led off the game with a home run and teammates Molly Child and Cailah Niles each followed with a solo shot. Neidigh added another solo home run in the fifth.
The Fleet did not fair any better in the second game. Anderson scored five runs in the first inning, including two from Niles' second homer of the day. Niles added her third long ball in the third inning.
Erskine managed just four hits in the nightcap, two coming off the bat of
Brittany Reynolds (Seneca, SC). Smith and
Christine Long (Greer, SC, Greer High School) had the other two hits for the Flying Fleet.
Anderson's Chelsea Jones tossed the complete game shutout for her fourth win of the year.
Erskine returns home to host Georgia Regents University this Thursday. The first game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
