Boiling Springs, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (0-2) lost 7 to 0 to the Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb University this afternoon in non-conference women's tennis action.
Gardner-Webb, an NCAA Division I institution, won all three doubles matches to grab the first point of the match. Under NCAA Division I rules, the three doubles matches count as a single point rather than three points in Division II play. Juniors
Sarah McDonald (Round O, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) and
Haley Elliott (Simpsonville, SC, Mauldin High School) nearly won their match, falling 8 to 7, including 7 to 5 in the tie-breaker.
Erskine lost five of the six singles matches in straight sets. McDonald, playing at #1 singles, took her opponent to three sets, winning the second set 6-4.
Erskine plays their next three matches at home starting next Thursday against the Bulldogs of Wingate University. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
