Box Score Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet overcame four errors to take a 17-8 victory over Miles College Friday afternoon in the non conference series opener.
With two outs in the top of the first, Justin Langdale would walk and then Xavius Burden would reach on an Erskine error. After a walk to Joshua Brown loaded the bases, Christopher Elias would single two score two and give the Golden Bears the lead. The Fleet would answer in the bottom of the inning.
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) and
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) would lead off the inning with back to back walks. Kozak would then score on a double by
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) and Overstreet would score on a sacrifice fly from
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS).
Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS) would then ground out to second base scoring Smith and giving Erskine the lead. Miles would again take advantage of a two out error in the top of the second to score four runs and take a 6-3 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Joey Wilson would lead off with a walk and advance to second on a single from
Ryan Lark (North Augusta, SC, North Augusta HS). Kozak would draw his second walk in as many innings and then Overstreet would single to drive in Wilson. Kozak and Oversteet would then pull off a double steal that scored Kozak and made it a one run game. Smith would follow with a two run home run to left field to give Erskine the lead. The Fleet would go on to score 10 runs over the next six innings to take the 17-8 victory.
Smith led the Erskine offense going 3-3 with a double, home run, and five runs driven in, while Overstreet added three hits and two RBI's.
Tanner Lollis (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) came off the bench and went 3-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
Zach McAllister (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) (1-0) picked up the win allowing one unearned run in three and one third innings of relief work and striking out three.
The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow with a double header starting at 12:00.
