Box Score Due West, SC – Erskine College scored 19 unanswered runs, including six home runs to take a 19-2 victory over Anderson University Tuesday in non conference baseball action. With the win, Erskine head baseball coach Kevin Nichols picked up his 500
th career win.
In the top of the first the Trojans would score two runs to take the early lead. Kyle Bailey would lead off with a single and then still second. After a walk to Garrett Bernardo, Bailey would score on a single by Steven Cooper. A sacrifice fly by LJ Newman would then score Bernardo to make it a 2-0 game. The Fleet would answer in the bottom half of the inning.
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) would lead off the inning with a double and advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Joey Wilson (Charleston, SC, USC Sumter).
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) would then draw a two out walk and
Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS) would blast a three run home run to right field to give Erskine the 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the second, the Fleet would take advantage of an Anderson error and score six runs to blow the game wide open. The big blow of the inning would be Dix's second three run home run in as many innings. Erskine would add 10 runs over the next six innings to take the victory.
Dix, Galliher, and
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) each had two home runs on the day to lead the offense, while Dix and Smith drove in six and five runs respectively.
Chase Watts (Rock Hill, SC, Rock Hill HS) finished the day 3-5 with a double and three RBI's and
Brandon Wooten (Taylors, SC, Blue Ridge HS) was 3-5 with two runs scored. Kyle Foster (3-0) picked up the win allowing two runs on five hits and striking out two in seven and two-thirds innings of work.
