Erskine romps Belmont Abbey 9-0

Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (1-2, 1-0) romped to a 9-0 win over the visiting Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College this afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action at Erskine College Tennis Complex.

Erskine raced out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition.  Mika Goyette (Montreal, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortague) and Mollie Polk (Round O, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) sped past Katharine Miller and Alex Weber 8 to 1.  Teammates Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) and Rebecca Weaver (Lake City, SC, The Carolina Academy) won by the score of 8-3 while Haley Elliott (Simpsonville, SC, Mauldin High School) and Sarah McDonald (Round O, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) won by default at #3 doubles.

The Fleet swept the six singles from Belmont Abbey.  Erskine won four of the matches in straight sets.  Elliott dropped her first set but rebounded to take the next two sets to win her match.  Erskine won the final spot by default as Belmont Abbey only had five healthy players.

Erskine will play two conference matches next weekend.  On Friday, the Fleet will play Barton College and the University of Mount Olive the next day.
