Box Score Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet hit two home runs in the bottom of the third inning to break a 2-2 tie and went on to an 8-2 victory over Georgia Regents University Tuesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.
In the bottom of the first,
Rodney O'Neal (Dublin, GA, Middle Tenn. St.) would lead off with a double and advanced to third on a single by
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC). A single by Zach Smith would score O'Neal and Overstreet would score on a ground out by
Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) to give Erskine a 2-0 lead. Drew Taylor would lead off the second with a solo home run to cut the lead to one. The Jaguars would tie the game up in the third when Cole Thompson led off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Nic Rau.
The game would not stay tied long as O'Neal would lead off the bottom half with a solo home run. Overstreet would then draw a walk and Smith would hit the second home run of the inning to make it a 5-2 game. Erskine would add three runs over the final three innings to take the 8-2 win.
Making his first start of the season, O'Neal led the Fleet offense going 4-5 with a double, home run and two RBI's, while Smith was 2-5 with a home run and three runs driven in. Overstreet,
Brandon Wooten (Taylors, SC, Blue Ridge HS),
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS), and
Hanlon Maivelett (Aiken, SC, Aiken HS) each added two hits.
Kyle Foster (Greer, SC, Blue Ridge HS) (2-0) picked up the win allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out three in six innings of work.
Noah Hinzman (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood Christian) and
Landon Dickerson (Williamston, SC, Palmetto High School) threw three shutout innings in relief.
