DUE WEST, SC - Erskine Women's Volleyball squared off against the Bulldogs of Barton College this afternoon in Belk Arena. The Fleet eventually prevailed 3-2 after coming back from a 2-1 deficit after the 3rd set. The win marks the 2nd time in the last week that the Fleet have had to overcome a 2-1 deficit, after accomplishing the same feat last Saturday against Southern Wesleyan University.
The Fleet won the first set 25-20 after pulling away late in the set. In the 2nd and 3rd sets, the Bulldogs would pick up momentum. They would win both sets by the scores of 25-19 and 25-22 respectively, while the Fleet committed 15 attack errors in these sets. The Fleet would bounce back to win a pivotal 4th set 25-21 to force a decisive set 5. Erskine jumped out to an early lead and held an 8-4 advantage as the teams switched sides of the net. The Fleet would hold on and take the 5th set, 15-7, and the match 3-2.
Kristen Dodge registered her 2nd consecutive double-double with 48 assists, and 13 digs, while also contributing 8 kills and 2 blocks. The Fleet attack was lead by
Marissa Greenough and
Payton Duncan. Greenough tallied 18 kills (.317 hitting percentage) and Duncan had 16 kills.
While the Fleet were tested, their record in Conference Carolinas remains unblemished at 15-0. They also stretched their winning streak to 14 games. They travel Tuesday to face Georgia Regents University before coming back to Belk Arena on Thursday to conclude their regular season against Emmanuel College.
