DUE WEST, SC - The Erskine Women's Volleyball team continued their Conference Carolinas home weekend by defeated the Saints of Limestone 3-0. The win stretches the Fleet's winning streak to 10 games and marks the 7th straight match they have won in straight sets.
The Fleet jumped on the Saints early and left very little doubt about the outcome of the first two sets.
Kristen Dodge led the Fleet to a 25-11 win the 1st set with 11 assists and 4 kills in only 4 opportunities. Erskine won the 2nd set 25-17 and
Payton Duncan registered 6 kills. The 3rd set was much more interesting as the Saints held a lead late in to the set. After timeouts called by both teams late, the Fleet fought back and won the 3rd set and the match, 28-26.
While the Fleet lacked the efficiency they have exhibited during most of their winning streak, Dodge, Duncan, and
Marissa Greenough performed well for the Fleet. Dodge had a game high 28 assists and 6 kills on only 10 opportunities (.600 hitting percentage). Duncan contributed a game high 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage while Greenough pitched in a solid 8 kills and 9 digs.
Coach Vahjen talked about her teams' mentality, stating that she "really likes the fact that her team is able maintain focus and motivation on a game to game basis".
Coach Vahjen's team has not lost a set since September 29th. The Fleet will host North Greenville University in Belk Arena next Friday at 7 pm.
