Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Fleet ground Crusaders, 3-0

Extend winning streak to 11

Due West, SC - The Fleet Women's Volleyball team continued their march towards a perfect Conference Carolinas season tonight in Belk Arena against the Crusaders of North Greenville University, winning in straight sets for the seventh consecutive game.  Their winning streak is extended 11 games and they haven't lost a set in almost a month.

In the 1st set, a few early errors by the Fleet kept the Crusaders close.  With Kristen Dodge serving, Erskine pulled away to a score of 18-12 before a couple of ball handling errors by the Fleet brought North Greenville within three points, 19-16.  In the end, the Fleet's offensive efficiency in the 1st set (.440 hitting percentage) would be too much for the Crusaders and Erskine would take the set, 25-19. Marissa Greenough would led the Fleet in the 1st set with 4 kills in only 5 attempts while Kristen Dodge would dish out 12 assists.

The Crusaders would fight back in the 2nd set, taking an early 7-4 lead and forcing a Fleet timeout .   Erskine reponded with an action packed run that forced a Crusader timeout with the Fleet having recaptured the lead at 11-8.  It was a lead that they would hold for the remainder of the set.  In fact, the Fleet lead would continue to grow, reaching a set high 10 point at the final score 25-15.  Greenough once again led the Fleet attack in the set with 5 kills and 2 service aces, while Dodge added another 13 assists.

Erskine momentum would carry over to the 3rd set.  The Fleet would jump out to a 9-5 lead forcing a North Greenville timeout.  The Fleet would extend their lead to 16-7 causing the Crusaders to call their 2nd timeout of the set.  The Crusaders would have no luck halting the Fleet momentum and Erskine would win the 3rd and final set, 25-12.  The Fleet would match their 1st set hitting percentage at .480 in the 3rd set while limiting the Crusaders to a -.074 hitting percentage.  Dodge increased her assist total from the first two sets by adding 14 assists in the 3rd set.

Greenough and Payton Duncan led the Fleet attacked with 11 and 10 kills respectively, while both hitting over 40%.  Duncan would also add 7 digs.  Dodged finished with 40 assists providing plenty of opportunities for the hitters.  Overall, Erskine hit .347 for the match compared to .048 for North Greenville.

The Fleet will be right back in action in Belk Arena tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm when they will take on the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University.
