DUE WEST, SC - The Fleet Women's Volleyball team cruised past the Valkyries of Converse College in only one hour and five minutes tonight in Belk Arena, 3-0. The win stretches their winning streak to 9 games and also make the 6 straight game that they have won in straight sets.
Erskine started the match strong, and never looked back. They would coast past the Valkyries in the first two sets, 25-11, including hitting an impressive .600 in the 1st set. The Fleet would use several runs, some as large as 8-0, to dominate early. The third set was much more competitive, 25-19. The circumstances did allow Coach Vahjen to get all 17 players some experience on the floor in front of a large crowd of parents and students.
Kristen Dodge led the Fleet notching a double-double with 26 assists and 11 digs, as well as 2 aces and 3 kills on 3 opportunities. The Fleet attack was led by a trio of
Kelly Sullivan,
Sade Mendez, and
Marissa Mayfield. Sullivan registered 7 kills on only 14 opportunities and Mendez added 6 kills.
Marissa Mayfield has an efficient night with 5 kills on only 7 opportunities. As a team, the Fleet had 10 services aces and stifled the Converse attack, holding them to -.013 hitting percentage for the match.
The Fleet return to action tomorrow afternoon in Belk Arena against Limestone College. Game time is set for 2 pm.
