Erskine rallies to win two matches in five sets

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Florence, S.C. – The Erskine Women's Volleyball Team rallied to win a pair of five set matches today in the Francis Marion University Invitational Tournament. 
 
In their first game, Erskine overcame a 2-0 deficit to win the next three sets to defeat Mars Hill University 3 to 2 for their first win of the season.  In the next game, Erskine clinched the decisive fifth set 15 to 12 to beat host Francis Marion University 3 to 2 and even their season record at 2-2.
 
Sophomore transfer Sade Mendez (Gardena, CA, Redondo Union High School) had an impressive day for the Flying Fleet, tallying a double-double with a game-high 16 kills and 19 digs against Mars Hill then followed it up with a team-high 12 kills and 7 blocks in the second game.
 
Erskine setter Kristen Dodge (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) was a dig short of opening the season with four consecutive double-doubles.  Against Mars Hill, Dodge earned a double-double with 43 assists and 18 digs.  She also added 7 kills.  In the next game, Dodge had 43 assists and 9 digs.
 
On the back row, Erskine's Kendall Kirk (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) played terrific defense, recording a career-high 29 digs in the first game and 18 digs in game two.
 
The Flying Fleet will travel to Wingate University on Tuesday to play both UNC-Pembroke and Wingate.
