Box Score 2 Wingate, NC – Erskine split a double header with Wingate University Saturday afternoon to wrap up the 2014 season.
Game OneThe Bulldogs would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Thomas Spitz doubled to left center and then scored on a single by Josh Clark. Erskine would be held scoreless through the first three innings, but in the fourth inning
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) would double off the centerfield wall and
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would then hit a home run over the right field wall to give the Fleet a 2-1 lead. Erskine would blow the game wide open with a seven run sixth inning.
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) would lead off with single up the middle and Overstreet would hit a home run to right. Corn would then reach base on an infield single and
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) would walk. They would score on a single up the middle by
Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS) to make it 6-1.
Teddy Heiser (Chicago, IL, College of Lake County) would double down the right field line to score Dix. After a walk to
Tanner Lollis (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS), Kozak would finish the scoring with a two run double. The Fleet would add five more runs to take a 14-3 victory.
Overstreet led the Fleet at the plate going 3-5 with a double, home run and three RBI's and Kozak was 3-5 with a double and three runs driven in. Corn was 2-5 with a home run and two RBIs and Heiser finished 2-4 with two doubles and one run batted in.
Wes Schuler (Spartanburg, SC, USC Sumter) (6-2) picked up the win allowing one run on nine hits in six innings of work.
Game TwoErskine would take the early lead in the top of the first when Corn doubled to right center and then scored on a single by Smith. The Bulldogs would tie the game in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Brad Cherry. In the top of the third, Overstreet would double to right center and later score on a single by Smith to give Erskine the lead again. Their lead would be short lived as Wingate scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. The Bulldogs would add two more runs in the fourth and a run in the sixth to take a 7-2 victory.
Smith was 2-4 and drove in both Erskine runs, while Corn added three hits and Kozak had two hits in the loss.
Zach McAllister (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) (5-4) took the loss allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out six in four innings of work.
