Box Score Wingate, NC – The Bulldogs of Wingate University exploded for five runs in the first inning and went on to a 12-2 victory over Erskine College Friday night to open up the three game series.

The Fleet would be held scoreless through the first four innings, but would get on the board in the top of the fifth.  Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS) would draw a one out walk and advance to second on a single by Destin Nichols (Tampa, FL, Berkley Prep).  Teddy Heiser (Chicago, IL, College of Lake County) would then reach on a fielder's choice to move Dix to third and Tanner Lollis (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would follow with a single to left to end the shut out.  Wingate would answer with five more runs in the bottom half of the inning to blow the game wide open.

Nichols and Heiser each had two hits to lead the Fleet at the plate, while Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) and Lollis each had a hit and a run batted in.  Austin Gambrell (Belton, SC, Spartanburg Methodist College) (8-2) took the loss allowing 10 runs on 13 hits in 4.2 innings of work
