Box Score 2 Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet swept a Conference Carolinas double header from King University Saturday afternoon, winning game one 7-5 and game two 14-6.
Game OneIn the top of the first, Tyler Gaby and Stephen Mullins would lead off with back to back single and Tyler Raymond would then follow with a two run double to give King (14-27-1, 5-10) the lead. Raymond would later score on a single by J.D. Wallace to make it a 3-0 game. Erskine (23-11, 10-4) would cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the second.
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) would lead off with a double and score on a double by
Destin Nichols (Tampa, FL, Berkley Prep) to put the Fleet on the board. Nichols would score when
Tanner Lollis (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) hit a two out double to make the score 3-2. The Tornado would respond with a two run home run by Hunter Smith to increase their lead back to three. In the bottom of the third,
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) would lead off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. He would then advance to third on a double by
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS). Back to back single by
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) and Galliher would make it a 5-4 game. A two run double by
Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would give the Fleet the one run lead. Erskine would add an insurance run in the fourth when
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) singled and scored on a hit by Smith.
Smith was 2-4 at the plate with two RBI's, while Galliher was 2-3 with a double and one run driven in.
Wes Schuler (Spartanburg, SC, USC Sumter) (3-1) picked up the win allowing three hits and striking out four in four innings of work.
Raymond led the Tornado offense, going 3-4 with a double, triple and two RBI's, while Smith added a home run and two runs driven in. Reiss Stanley (2-4) took the loss allowing seven runs on 10 hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Game TwoKing would again get on the board first with two runs in the top of the second, and they would add another in the third to make it a 3-0 game. In the bottom of the third, Overstreet and Corn would lead off with singles. Overstreet would score on a hit by Galliher to get Erskine on the board. Nichols would then blast a three run home run to left field to give Erskine the one run lead. Kozak would lead off the fourth with a double and score ona single by Corn to make it a two run game. With two outs in the fifth, Raymond would triple to left center and then score on a home run by Smith to tie the game at five. Erskine would answer with six runs in the bottom of the inning, with the big blow being a two run home run by Corn to blow the game wide open.
Corn led the Fleet at the plate going 4-5 with two home runs and five RBI's. Overstreet finished with three hits and two RBI's and Nichols was 2-4 with a home run and four runs driven in.
Nic Levy (Hilton Head, SC, Hilton Head HS)(3-0) picked up the win allowing four earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
Smith and Raymond each had two hits to lead the Tornado, while Justin Trent also added two hits. Alexander Gonzalez (3-5) took the loss allowing nine earned runs on 14 hits in 4.2 innings of work.
