Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying (16-5), the #1 seed, quickly carved up the #8 Valkyries of Converse College (3-17) 5 to 0 in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Championship Tournament at the Palmetto Tennis Center hosted by Erskine College.
Erskine claimed the three doubles matches, losing just one game. Senior
Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and junior
Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortague) won at #1 doubles 8-1 while sophomores
Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) and
Sarah McDonald (Cottageville, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) won 8-0 at #2 doubles. Sophomore
Haley Elliott (Simpsonville, SC, Mauldin High School) and freshman
Mollie Polk (Round O, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) beat their opponent by the same score of 8-0 at #3 doubles play.
Erskine quickly ended the match as McDonald and Elliott won in straight sets to win the match. Erskine was ahead in the other four remaining matches when the match ended.
Erskine will advance to the semi-final round on Saturday to face the University of Mount Olive, who defeated Barton 5 to 4. Match time is set for 9:00 a.m.
