Box Score Burlington, N.C. – #5 The Erskine Flying Fleet (17-22) lost 4 to 0 to #4 University of Mount Olive Trojans (21-24) this afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Softball Championship Tournament held at Springwood Park in Burlington, North Carolina.
The Trojans profited from two Erskine fielding miscues and pitcher Carly White held the Fleet bats to just six hits over seven innings. In the third inning, UMO scored two unearned with two outs. With runners first and second, Erskine committed their first throwing error allowing two runs to score in the inning.
Mount Olive added two more runs, one in the fifth and the other in the seventh. In the fifth, Mount Olive's Kalie Smith hit a solo home run, her fifth of the year, and Megan Ready scored on another Fleet errand throw in the seventh.
Meanwhile, Erskine could muster just six hits, all singles, against White, who did not issue a walk. White worked out of trouble three times in earning the shutout.
Senior
Ashlyn Hicks (Caycee, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School) had two of the Fleet's six hits.
Erskine's
Danica Newton (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) threw well, allowing three runs, just one earned on four hits over six innings. She struck out four and issued two walks.
Erskine will play at 3:00 p.m. today against the loser between Barton and King.
