Box Score Greenwood, SC - The second ranked Bearcats scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break open a two run game and take an 8-2 victory over the Flying Fleet Tuesday night in non conference baseball action.
Erskine (32-13) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. With two outs and no one on base,
Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would be hit by a pitch and then advance to second on a single by
Destin Nichols (Tampa, FL, Berkley Prep).
Joey Wilson (Charleston, SC, USC Sumter) would then double down the right field line to score Cothran and give Erskine the lead. The lead would be short lived as Lander (40-6) would answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. The game would remain tied until the top of the fifth when Wilson would blast a solo home run to left, putting the Fleet up 2-1. Connor Lewis would blast a lead off home run in the bottom half of the game to tie the game at two. Lander would score two more runs in the sixth to take the lead and add four more in the eighth to take the victory.
Wilson led the Fleet at the plate going 2-3 and driving in both Erskine runs.
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) added two hits, while Nichols and
Hanlon Maivelett (Aiken, SC, Aiken HS) both had one hit.
JR Black (Greenville, SC, USC Sumter) (4-2) took the loss allowing two runs on two hits in one inning of work.
Erskine returns to action on Thursday as they will play Limestone in the first round of the Conference Carolinas baseball tournament in Burlington, NC. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
